New Iberia
One balmy spring, eight of us, all with southern roots and a love of things worn-well-with-time, went south both to enjoy the company and reconnect with our romantic past. And reconnect we did. Cajun music, crayfish gumbo and boat rides in the bayous were fun alright. However, the most inspiring moment occurred on the upper porch of a grand old home. From there we could hear footsteps on the heart pine floors within, we could see the rolling river beyond the fields below, we could remember the families whose lives made history before our time. This place (New Iberia), this moment a reflection, a connection with then and now.
