Ewing House
Peter Moyer, a Williamsburg baker, either built or added onto this original colonial house in the late 1700’s. He probably used the east room as a shop for selling his baked goods. The house was next purchased by Scottish merchant Ebenezer Ewing, who may have used the same space for his store. Ewing left the house to Elizabeth Ashton, the mother of his illegitimate son. The merchant’s will stipulated, however, that ownership of the property would revert to his son “the moment” Elizabeth found a suitable husband. Elizabeth never did marry. Records indicate that she died only four years after Ebenezer.
